Periodic Class Announcements

(for MS 3403 - Logistics Management)

Aug. 26, 2002 - Welcome Message from Dr. Kefeng Xu

Dear MS 3403 Students:
This is an information page with our informal discussions outside of our regular classes. You could read it in the comfort of your home or while you need to take a break during your intensive job. It is intended to be supplemental to your learning in textbooks and in-class lecture. So have fun browsing here and come back frequently!

Sept. 4, 2002 - Interesting MACRO discussions about inventory's importance in business

Dear MS3403 Students:
There are two very relevant articles that help us understand the importance of inventory (a big component of logistics management) in today's business from a MACRO-perspective. The first one discusses the meaning of inventory-to-sales ratio to an ordinary investor in layman's terms: (or read it from http://biz.yahoo.com/edu/st/sm_st17.sm.html).

The second piece puts the inventory in economist's language but still sheds some lights on the state of current economy from the inventory angle (or read it from http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/02_30/c3793024.htm).

They very much related to our discussions in Chapters 1 and 2. Let me know what you think!

Sept. 11, 2002 - Homework Project #1

Homework Project #1 is now assigned and will be due on Sept. 23. You could click here to download the homework if you do not receive the HW Proejct #1 handout sheet in class.

Sept. 23, 2002 - Homework Project #2
Homework Project #2 is now assigned and will be due on Oct. 7 online before class (3:30pm). All questions are from Chapters 1 and 2 only. Most of them are True/False and multiple choice types, with several SHORT ANSWERS questions too. By short answers I mean typically 3-5 sentences are probably enough to answer the questions. You could print out your Homework Project Questions by logging into WebCT without submitting (i.e., without hitting the FINISH button). After you click on BEGIN QUIZ in WebCT, you can right click and PRINT the questions out to study at home. Or, click here for a simple PREVIEW.

If you do not have a WebCT account or do not know how to log on, please read this WebCT Student Handout.

As a kind reminder, Midterm Exam is scheduled in tomorrow's class time. The homework questions and lectured materials you have studied so far provide a strong basis for the Midterm Exam.
