The Logistics Educators' Conference (LEC), an annual event
held on the Sunday prior to the Council of Logistics
Management annual conference, will be co-chaired this year by
Dr. Joe B. Hanna and Dr. Brian J. Gibson, both on the faculty
of Auburn University, Department of Aviation Management and
Logistics. The conference affords a unique opportunity to
share ideas on current research while providing an excellent
venue for networking with global colleagues.
From among those papers accepted for presentation at the
LEC, the best research is selected by the Editorial Review
Panel to be presented with the distinguished A. Grosvenor
Plowman Award. The 2002 recipients are Dr. Yan Dong of the
University of Minnesota and Dr. Kefeng Xu of the University of
Texas at San Antonio for their paper entitled Demand
Collaboration and Supply Chain Performance.
Yan Dong received his doctorate degree from the University
of Maryland in the areas of transportation and logistics
management. Holding degrees in both economics and computer
science, Dr. Dong has contributed his skills and expertise to
industry giants including IBM Global Services and the World
Bank. A published author in the Journal of Operations
Management and Transportation Research (E), his research
is focused in the areas of supply chain management and
strategies, channel coordination, and competitive firm
behavior in logitics and supply chains. Dong is currently on
the faculty of the University of Minnesota, Carlson Schools of
Management where he holds the position of Assistant Professor
of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Kefeng Xu also received his doctorate degree form the
University of Maryland where he concentrated on the double
majors of logistics/transportation and operations management.
A frequent author, Dr. Xu's publications have appeared or are
forthcoming in various academic journals including the
Journal of Business Logistics, Transportation Research,
Journal of Transportation Economics & Policy,
International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics
Management, International Business Studies,
European Journal of Operational Research, and Computers
& Operations Research. His research interests include:
inventory management; logistics, service
and manufacturing strategy; supply chain modeling;
transportation policy; service, cost and demand studies. Xu is
currently Assistant Professor of Operations & Logistics
Management at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
